Satin and Lace was a flaxen chestnut mare born in 1993. Her identification number was 35, which was branded on her left shoulder and her foals were sold as #35. She also had 93 branded on her right hip. Her donor reached out to us recently and now we know the rest of her story!
Satin and Lace was born the Sunday before the pony swim and was brought over on a barge. Susanne Therien purchased her for $700 at the auction and donated her back to the herd. The formal buyback program of today did not exist then. Susanne named her Impulse because she was an impulse purchase. We assume she was given the name Satin and Lace by the now defunct Chincoteague Pony Association which was founded the next year. Susanne told us she was sired by the half Mustang General Lee and her dam was named Morning Glory.
In our records we know that Satin and Lace had at least 4 foals and most were sired by Tornado. Kelly Lidard found her body in April 2001 and most likely died in foaling. Her last foal is with her in this 2000 photo by Jaye Okovitch.
