Satin and Lace

Satin and Lace was a flaxen chestnut mare born in 1993. Her identification number was 35, which was branded on her left shoulder and her foals were sold as #35. She also had 93 branded on her right hip. Her donor reached out to us recently and now we know the rest of her story!

Satin and Lace was born the Sunday before the pony swim and was brought over on a barge. Susanne Therien purchased her for $700 at the auction and donated her back to the herd. The formal buyback program of today did not exist then. Susanne named her Impulse because she was an impulse purchase. We assume she was given the name Satin and Lace by the now defunct Chincoteague Pony Association which was founded the next year. Susanne told us she was sired by the half Mustang General Lee and her dam was named Morning Glory.

In our records we know that Satin and Lace had at least 4 foals and most were sired by Tornado. Kelly Lidard found her body in April 2001 and most likely died in foaling. Her last foal is with her in this 2000 photo by Jaye Okovitch.

Thank you Susanne for reaching out to tell us about your Impulse!

Unknown Chestnut Pinto Mare

There are several unidentified ponies we're looking for information on. If you have any information or pictures of these ponies please contact us!

This mare is elderly in these pictures from 2000 and she passed away sometime after these were taken. We've spotted her in photos as far back as the late 1970s. She has a brand on her left shoulder in the 2000 photos but we can't quite make it out. That number would connect to a registered name.

Bay Pinto Stallion

There are several unidentified ponies we're looking for information on. If you have any information or pictures of these ponies please contact us!

This bay pinto stallion was likely born in the mid to late 1970s as he's an adult in a 1980 photo. The left photo is from 1983. The right photo is from 1993 and he disappears from photos after 1994. He likely had a registered name and identification number since he was alive when the old registry was founded. He may have been one of the multiple stallions called "Lighthouse" prior to the old registry.

Unknown Sooty Palomino Mare

There are several unidentified ponies we're looking for information on. If you have any information or pictures of these ponies please contact us!

This small sooty palomino mare first appears in photos in the early 1980s. These photos are from 1999 and she disappears from photos after that. Her identification number brand with accompanying F can be seen in the second photo. However, we haven't been able to make it out.

Indian Bey

There are several unidentified ponies we're looking for information on. If you have any information or pictures of these ponies please contact us!

This chestnut pinto stallion was born in the 1970s and died sometimes after Pony Penning 1995. There's a photo of him as a young stallion in the 1978 book Island of Wild Horses by Jack Denton Scott. Kelly Lidard found the name Indian Bey for him. We don't have an identification number associated with that name so are considering there might be a different registered name for him. He would have had an identification number branded on his left shoulder around 1994. Also looking for any nicknames prior to the registry.

Unknown 1993 Bay Pinto Mare

There are several unidentified ponies we're looking for information on. If you have any information or pictures of these ponies please contact us!

This is a bay pinto mare who was born in 1993, like her hip brand says. This photo is from 1994. She would have had an identification number branded on her left shoulder that would connect to a registered name.

Unknown Bay Pinto Stallion

There are several unidentified ponies we're looking for information on. If you have any information or pictures of these ponies please contact us!

This bay pinto stallion appears to have been around in the early to mid 1990's. The first photo is from 1994. He likely would have received a name and identification number that year. The number would have been firebranded on his left shoulder. However, there were at least 3 pinto stallions transferred from Maryland that year. Two of them were sold at the 1994 auction. The second (undated) photo is by photographer Medford Taylor and appears in several books.

Unknown Chestnut Pinto Mare

There are several unidentified ponies we're looking for information on. If you have any information or pictures of these ponies please contact us!

This chestnut pinto mare appears to have been born in the early 1980s. The right photo is from 1995. The left photo is from 2000 and she disappears from photos after that. We've nicknamed her "Promise of Summer's Mom" as she appears to be the dam of the 1989 mare Promise of Summer. She would have had a registered name and an identification number. The identification number would have been branded on her left shoulder from 1994 onward.

"The Bridge Stallion"

There are several unidentified ponies we're looking for information on. If you have any information or pictures of these ponies please contact us!

This was a stallion in the 70's and 80's. He's pictured in the 1978 book Island of Wild Horses by Jack Denton Scott. He disappears from photos in the late 1980s. We've been calling him The Bridge Stallion. Stallions back then often were called by the area they lived and he usually lived around or under the Assateague causeway bridge. He's too far back to have had a registered name but we were wondering if there were other names he was known by.
